Lake Havasu City’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board (PRAB) is implementing a new "Kids Corner" at its public meetings, offering activities and snacks for children. This initiative aims to foster a more family-friendly environment and encourage broader community participation in discussions about local recreational opportunities. The new Kids Corner will be available starting at the upcoming board meeting, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. on the fourth Monday of an upcoming month at the Lake Havasu City Council Chambers, located at 92 Acoma Blvd. South.

PRAB Vice Chair Mercedes Kaiser expressed enthusiasm for the new addition, stating, "We are excited to introduce the addition of activities for our youth to enjoy while the meeting takes place." The Kids Corner will feature a "self-serve crafts and coloring station" along with snacks for both children and adults. Kaiser noted that the board seeks to make its meetings more inviting and available to parents with children, who might otherwise perceive public meetings as too formal. She added that the upcoming meeting would mark the first time her own children would be in attendance, highlighting the personal commitment to this welcoming approach. The board's intention is to change the overall meeting environment, making it more approachable for community members whose families are directly impacted by the mission and actions of Lake Havasu City Parks and Recreation.

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board plays a vital role in shaping Lake Havasu City’s recreational landscape, from overseeing facilities to planning community-building programs. The board, known as PRAB, consists of eight regular members, one student body member, and a City Council member serving as a liaison. These members contribute local perspectives, addressing issues, concerns, ideas, and events related to parks and recreation. The PRAB collaborates with the city on vision, planning, and development, ensuring that parks, facilities, and recreational services continue to benefit both residents and visitors alike.

Residents interested in understanding how community recreation evolves are encouraged to attend these public meetings. The board aims to welcome more community members and change the atmosphere to be more inclusive for families. Meetings are open to the public and are held at 6 p.m. on the fourth Monday of every other month. The venue remains the Lake Havasu City Council Chambers, 92 Acoma Blvd. South, Lake Havasu City, AZ 86403.

The current members of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board include Chair Kyler Cox, Vice Chair Mercedes Kaiser, Ashley Pascual, Filomena Roberts, Alex Coletta, Jason Usry, William Byers, Paige Allgood, and Lake Havasu City Council member Liaison Cameron Moses.
