Lake Havasu City residents, visitors, and community partners are invited to attend the official unveiling of the Dean Barlow Legacy Loop this Friday, October 23. The ceremony, scheduled for 10:30 a.m., will take place at the prominent corner of Beachcomber Boulevard and McCulloch Boulevard. This new designation officially renames the Island Multiuse Path, serving as a lasting tribute to former Lake Havasu City Councilmember Dean Barlow and acknowledging his significant contributions to the local area.
Mr. Barlow, a dedicated Lake Havasu City resident for over three decades, left an indelible mark on the community through his unwavering service and generosity. During his impactful tenure of eight years on the City Council, he was a vocal advocate, championing various initiatives designed to strengthen local programs and elevate the overall quality of life for all who reside in and visit Lake Havasu. His profound influence reached across multiple sectors of the community, fostering growth and civic engagement.
Among his many noteworthy endeavors, Mr. Barlow generously donated both his time and vital resources to key local institutions, including the community's animal shelter, a range of continuing education initiatives, and the local museum. Furthermore, he played an instrumental role in the establishment and funding of the inaugural Havasu Shop with a Cop program, a significant charitable effort. His commitment to civic betterment also extended to serving on the Keep Havasu Beautiful Board, underscoring his extensive and varied contributions to the public good.
The formal adoption of the Dean Barlow Legacy Loop designation by the City Council occurred on September 8. This decision followed a citizen request, submitted through the City’s established Street Naming and Renaming program. This program is specifically designed to recognize the public benefit inherent in honoring notable community members by dedicating public spaces and landmarks in their name. The process ensures that individuals who have significantly contributed to the welfare and development of Lake Havasu City receive due recognition.
The newly named loop is intended to stand as a permanent and visible tribute to Mr. Barlow’s steadfast commitment to public service, his deep-seated community pride, and his exemplary civic leadership. The City encourages all residents, visitors, and local community partners to participate in this special unveiling ceremony. It represents an important opportunity to collectively honor Dean Barlow’s enduring legacy and to celebrate a multiuse space that is envisioned to continue bringing people together for many years to come, reflecting the spirit of unity and shared community Mr. Barlow championed.
