LAKE HAVASU CITY — The Lake Havasu flag football team delivered a record-setting performance on Thursday, securing an 84-0 victory over Sierra Linda after earning a win earlier in the week against Alhambra.
The home victory against Sierra Linda capped a strong rebound week for the program. The Knights began their week on Tuesday by earning a victory on the road against Alhambra before returning to Lake Havasu City to host Sierra Linda on Thursday. In Thursday's game, Lake Havasu put together an unprecedented offensive display, scoring 84 points while keeping Sierra Linda completely off the scoreboard in an 84-0 shutout.
The dominant pair of victories served as a crucial turnaround for the team following a period of difficulty the week prior. Head coach Charlie Stickney spoke about the importance of the victories for the program after navigating recent challenges on the field.
Stickney told a local news report that it felt great for the team to be back on track after experiencing a couple of tough losses during the previous week. He noted that the team needed those specific victories to build up their confidence again.
Among the setbacks from the previous week was a difficult performance against North, where the Knights suffered a 48-2 loss. That loss created a set of obstacles for the squad as they sought to maintain momentum during their regular season schedule.
Addressing the impact of that previous matchup, Stickney told a local news report that the team was hurt a little bit by the 48-2 loss against North. However, he expressed satisfaction with how the team responded during this week's contests, sharing that it was really nice to be back in control again as the group continues working towards its playoff run.
With the victory over Alhambra on Tuesday and the record-breaking 84-point outburst against Sierra Linda on Thursday, the Knights successfully shifted their focus back toward postseason preparation. The consecutive wins allowed Lake Havasu to stabilize its season narrative and restore team confidence following the 48-2 loss to North.
By putting up 84 points against Sierra Linda while simultaneously keeping their opponent scoreless, the team recorded one of the most remarkable results of its season. The Knights now look ahead to building upon the momentum gained from their recent Tuesday and Thursday victories as they continue their push toward the playoffs.
