LAKE HAVASU CITY — The Lake Havasu Unified School District Governing Board is scheduled to convene behind closed doors to consider the future of the former Arizona State University campus property, as Havasu News reported.
The governing board has set a special executive meeting for Wednesday, Nov. 4. During this closed-door session, board members are slated to gather to receive formal legal advice from counsel. The agenda for the executive session specifically focuses on holding discussions concerning potential negotiations related to the property.
The subject of the upcoming executive session is the parcel of land historically known as the former Daytona Middle School property. In more recent years, the location served as the local Lake Havasu location for Arizona State University before the campus ceased operations at the site.
The scope of the board's planned discussions during the Nov. 4 meeting encompasses several possible real estate outcomes for the property. According to the board's meeting notification, members will be evaluating legal advice and discussing potential negotiations that could involve the purchase, sale, or lease of the former Daytona Middle School and university grounds.
Because the meeting is designated as a closed session to consult with legal counsel and address sensitive property negotiation details, the specific terms, potential buyers, lessees, or transactional figures under consideration will be discussed in private rather than in open public session.
The future of the local university site has drawn public commentary regarding the circumstances surrounding the eventual closure of the higher education facility. Public reaction included political criticism surrounding state-level funding decisions that previously impacted the university's presence in the community. Specifically, commentary expressed frustration over past legislative funding reductions that led to the operational closure of the campus location, pointing out the lack of state legislative intervention to maintain the university's local educational presence.
As discussion regarding the property proceeds, guidelines for community participation and public feedback emphasize civil interaction. Community members engaging in public discourse surrounding local news and school board developments are instructed to refrain from using obscene, vulgar, lewd, racist, or sexually degrading language. Additional posting standards require participants to maintain truthfulness, avoid threats of harm against others, ensure all caps lock settings are turned off, and proactively report any abusive commentary using designated reporting mechanisms while sharing relevant historical context or eyewitness details.
